Seeking advice for how to approach communications issues.
Good evening. I am seeking advice on how to approach a communications issue with my professor. My professor at a US University is originally from South Korea, and I am told she is brilliant in her field. However, her accent and word pronunciation are extremely difficult to understand, as English is her third language. I have been replaying her 45-minute weekly lectures 4 to 5 times to try and understand, and subtitles are no help or make it worse.
How do I go about bringing up the fact that I am having extreme difficulty in understanding and it is affecting my ability to learn? I don't want to be disrespectful, or discredit her knowledge or what she has to offer but if I cannot understand, are my education needs being met, and am I the only one?
Example: Every word she pronounces out every syllable, like she is sounding out the words for the first time, repeating parts of longer words multiple times. There are also substituted consonants.
Any advice on what I should do? I don't want to fail the class, but not sure what is appropriate or reasonable here.
