Can my parents do anything about me getting charges on their insurance?

Drug Possession

I was living with somebody and I already knew what they do, I accepted it bc it was a safe place to stay. I already knew I’d likely get caught up. It happened and I was driving a car owned by my father, in my brothers name, and covered by their insurance.

These are the charges

  • possession of controlled substance
  • Unlawful position of marijuana
  • Possession of paraphernalia
  • Open container transport

My first court date I was told I’d go back and talk to the prosecutor and that they would tell me a deal. That’s not what happened though, he asked ‘have you thought about any of this’ I didn’t even know the charges at the time, I said ‘ well I guess I was thinking of getting a lawyer’ as I’m disabled and don’t understand any of this stuff, first time in trouble legally like this. He immediately responded with something like ‘okay I can’t tell you anything or answer anything then’. Like wtf ? Is that even normal?

Anyways I have court again tomorrow. I called and she said I’d just be talking to the prosecutor again. I did have an application in for a lawyer this time, cause they gave me 60 days for that.

My parents are trying to tell me what to do about the charges, and I just wanna do whatever is easiest for me to get this over with. They’re using the reason to control things because of it being on their insurance.

so I’m curious, is there anything they can do to help it not affect their insurance? Or to be able to get it off their insurance? Tbh I don’t know too much how all this works. But if there’s advice I can give them to help fix this situation, id like to be able to let them know. I was assuming they’d need to get a lawyer or something. Thank you
