in-sink food disposal on septic

Adding solids to your septic tank is always a concern with septic systems. Even without disposing of food via your sink, you still need to be mindful of anything that may enter your tank. This is because the more solids it holds, the higher the risk of solids flooding and clogging the outlet pipe. That's why it's widely advised to pump out your septic tank every few years. Non-organic matter is not welcome in your septic system simply because it doesn't break down, or rather it doesn't break down fast enough, since the microorganisms in your septic only eat organic matter. Because of that, anything that we eat as food is welcome in the septic system. Septic wellness relies on the speed its solids decompose, and our feces (digested food) decompose much faster than undigested food. That's what septic systems are primarily for, anyway. However, septic does break down normal, undigested food, albeit at a slower rate. If you have ever flushed toilet paper, flushing undigested food has much, much less of an impact. So when we're asking "Is using food disposals safe for septic?", we're really asking "Does the tank have enough room?" and that's a whole other question, isn't it?
