Hello,
I originally visited my GP in May after having pretty worrying palpitations. As I've had anxiety for around 20 years (well managed with meds and CBT tools) I am used to heart flutters and panic mode, but these felt unlike anything I had experienced before.
My GP had me on an ECG which she said showed mild irregularities and extrasystoles.
She sent me for a blood test to rule out anything else.
The results originally came back with a low platelet count (108) and I was placed on folic acid 5mg daily from that point. They repeated the bloods six weeks later and this time the reading was too high (608). They said to carry on with the folic acid and do the bloods a third time in six more weeks. Those results are in and the readings have not changed from the last one.
I am still getting palpitations and irregular heartbeat though I am trying to tell myself it may be a new form of anxiety I've not experienced before and I am ok etc.
However, the GP receptionist told me I don't need another appointment and "it is what it is" for the platelet readings and palpitations which seems odd to me and I wondered if I should be pushing for a) the appointment and b) if I do get the appointment what should I be ensuring the GP is checking for as next steps, if any?
Advice very much appreciated!
