r/coheed's Song of the Day #73: Iron Fist
I am prepared. The downvotes will surround me on this one. Iron Fist is by far my least favorite Coheed song. I'm not big on acoustic stuff, and this is basically that, save for the solo. I am a fan of the drums, and the guitar solo is bitchin'... But they don't fit the song to me. Not with the way Claudio sings the chorus. The way he sings it is so... not serious, and the subject matter of the lyrics combined with the sound begs for a more serious, heart-wrenching performance. And then the birds. THE BIRDS. WHAT THE FUCK. This song is cheese. The Wizard of Oz-like lyrics towards the end. Goddamn this goddamn goddamn goddamn god goddgodgogg. Not a fan of that part either. The electronic, airy quality added to the song is just meh to me. And the badababababa is...yeah. Fun fact, it's the only Coheed song available that I don't have on Spotify! Sorry guys, I really tried with this one.
The Fiction- Sirius is released from the hospital and returns home. On the drive back, he reflects on how angry he was when Meri confessed everything just before the car crash; not at her, and not at Colten, but at himself, for not being able to give her the emotional support she needed. He realizes how stubborn he had been when he decided to leave her for the unknown on his mission to the Keywork; he thought he would discover something amazing out there, and though he certainly did, he understands too late that none of it mattered as much as his wife. If he hadn't left her, she would likely still be alive and he could have salvaged their marriage. Instead, his selfish desired ruined the best thing he had.
The Real- This is an apology to Chondra from Claudio for getting frustrated at his ability to communicate.
The Part- Guitar solo.... except for the birds, man.
Officially I want to state that all you people out there downvoting those who disagree and not bringing a discussion into the situation: you're the problem with reddit.
