Hard to find job in PH?
How bad is the job market in PH? I’ve never worked locally. Fortunate enough to have started working abroad after uni but I’m looking to go back home even for a couple of years. I have started looking for jobs but I’m getting zero responses. I don’t know how to navigate this. I’ve even reached out to talent/hr reps on LinkedIn or cold emailing but getting nothing as well. Is this the culture?
I’ve tapped into my trusted connections, including those who work in HR, and I’ve gotten a variety of answers as to why I’m getting nothing. Some of them include:
- Due to my foreign work experience, the firm assumes I’m out of their budget and would not bother even if to touch base.
- Hiring process is archaic and slow depending on how traditional/corporate the company is.
- Changes in open job positions are erratic. One moment they’re hiring for this position, the next, they’ve decided not to hire. Leaving positions open for months with zero progress.
- The ATS may simply be filtering my resume out.
- “Open” job positions are already reserved for internal hires.
- HR reps/Management are stuck up on looking for a candidate that fits the mold almost perfectly. (typical asian job mindset. never had this issue when dealing with westerners. they’re the only ones that appreciated the variety and creativity of my experiences.)
Appreciate your guys’ advices/discussion. Kind of semi-ranted here as I’ve been looking for months now and I’m surprised how hard it is looking for a job back home. It just feels like you’re not wanted even by your own people. I’m not expecting to be welcomed with open arms btw. It’s just an easier pill to swallow when I get rejected from foreign-based positions as there’s more factors involved. Mostly visa issues which is out of my or their control.
