Mesmers have huge missed potential

I was so creeped out when I first encountered it, I whipped out my sea glide and did a 180 just to get away from it.

Fast forward to later, I was down in the lost river and saw another one. Out of curiosity I decided to see what would happen if I drew closer (after saving of course.) I went through the whole hypnotizing sequence, only for it to just give me a quick bite and run away.

Seriously? I was hoping for something more. Some kind of jumpscare or more damage? The idea of a fish that can hypnotize its victims is scary and interesting, yet they just made it into a mild annoyance.

Imagine if at the end, it unfolds from this "beautiful creature" into this unholy hellspawn that devours you whole, or at least locks you in a bite animation like the crab snake. That would make them much scarier.
