New pc for parents or handmedown?
Hello all,
My parents are still using an old i5-4460 PC I built for them about 10 yrs ago for light office use. The PC is not compatible with Windows 11, and is starting to give them random freezes, so time to replace.. At the same time, I wanted to upgrade my current AM4 gaming system with a newer CPU.
I have two options:
- Give them my current Ryzen 2700X build with 32GB DDR4 3200, B450 itx mobo + put a GT1030 in there for video out. This will run Windows 11.
- I would then build myself a new gaming system with a Ryzen 7800X3D (or equivalent ryzen 9000), B650 itx mobo, 32GB DDR5-6000, and transfer over my 7800XT. Tota cost (reusing a lot of parts): ca. 800 EUR.
OR
- I keep my AM4 build, but put a 5700X3D as an upgrade.
- I build my parents a new system with i3-14100, 16GB DDR4 3200, and an Asrock B760 itx motherboard. Total cost (reusing a lot of parts): ca. 600 EUR.
Which is the better option?
I know the 7800X3D system is more powerful for myself. I am not sure which option is better for my parents? Would they be better off with the more modern quad-core i3 system with iGPU, or with my old 2700X octacore + dedicated GPU?
Thanks for any insight!
