How Can I log into NordVPN in Linux every time I start my system?
I am duplicating this post because it was archived:
I am adding some in information I found out about having NordVPN run upon startup, because I cannot add to that archived post.
First of all, NordVPN should be installed from the terminal and not from the SNAP store. The way you would install NordVPN from the terminal, according to the NordVPN website, would be to install the .DEB package (if using Debian-based Linux distributions such as Linux Mint, Ubuntu, or Debian) or the .RPM (if using Fedora, Mandriva, or SUSE Linux). The command to do so is the following (copy and paste into terminal):
sh <(curl -sSf https://downloads.nordcdn.com/apps/linux/install.sh)
Keep in mind that NordVPN is a command-line program and not a GUI. This installs the APT package, but you still need to install the NordVPN program. You can do so the following way if on a Debian-based distribution (again, copy and paste):
sudo apt update sudo apt install nordvpn
The next thing you need to do is to tell NordVPN what server you want to connect to. The best way to do this is to check the settings you have in your NordVPN mobile app. My NordVPN mobile app says I am connected to US server 10101, so I entered the following to select this as my server:
sudo nordvpn connect us10101
Now, you will need to make sure that NordVPN always starts up when you log into Linux. You want to go into the Startup applications to add NordVPN. In my case for Linux Mint, you would follow the steps shown in the top image to add NordVPN to your startup programs.
The NordVPN website suggests another method to add NordVPN to your startup programs, but it involves editing text files as a root user, which is more dangerous, and it's unnecessarily complicated since your OS has a better way of doing this.
