Smart solutions for cats who keep destroying plants? (Apartment, no balcony) 🌱🐱

General

Hi!

So I used to love having plants at home but when we got our first cat she kept on digging in the soil, chewing on the leafs and pushing them over etc. She even started sleeping on them lol.

I tried training her but it didn’t seem to work. I have trained her with other things and she is very well behaved but something about plants makes her go crazy 🤪

I gave up after awhile and now we only have fake plants. She still gets obsessed with some of them so I had to take a few down because she tried eating the plastic leafs (and succeeded once).

But ahhhh how I miss my plants! I really want to get some and try again! However, we now also have a second cat and she is a bat shit crazy little mischievous thing (and I love her to death for it). She will probably be even more crazy around the plants lol.

So I’m wondering… do you have any recommendations on how to protect plants from your cats? Obviously I will only have cat-safe plants either way but I don’t want the plants to be destroyed. I don’t have a balcony or garden and they are two very smart girls that can open most things and reach most places. Maybe there is a plant cats generally won’t be interested in? Or a plant I could buy for them to chew on and play with as an approved alternative/distraction? Or could I put some hanging plants somewhere maybe? Is there a way I could try training them again? Any recommendations or inspiration from people with similar issues would be great!

Have a lovely day💘🐱🌱
