Catalytic converter help

My partner and I are out 5 this year between both our cars and her RV in storage. RV was in a gated storage facility with cameras and they have been no help. Mostly worried about our daily commute vehicles. I've heard that VA recommends bright orange heat resistant paint as an identifier. Has anyone had experience with this working at all or am I wasting my time?
