Are all fertility clinics this poorly run??

I just have to vent for a minute but I am absolutely astounded at what a hot mess our fertility clinic is!!

We’ve completed 2 egg retrievals/embryo cryo cycles to bank as many as possible since I’ll never be this young again (still a geriatric 36 but I can’t make time go backwards). The first egg retrieval went off without a hitch and everything was great.

Second retrieval to now when we’re about to start a FET… idk what is going on!! For some context, our insurance works through reimbursement so we have to pay all costs up front. So to the clinic it looks like we’re just regular ol’ self-pay patients. During the second retrieval, we found out our meds had been ordered incorrectly TWICE. One required me to drive an hour each way to a specialty pharmacy to get what we were missing (which was egregious IMO because it was Menopur… they only sent the script for one box… hello?? That’ll last literally 2 days on the dosage I was prescribed). The other we luckily knew someone who’s had recently gone through egg freezing and had plenty of extra of the med we needed.

Because we’re self-pay, we have to pay a deposit to the clinic per cycle. At the end, we’re supposed to get a ledger of services rendered and then get anything left over as either a credit or check. It took over a month for them to get us the ledger after the second ER. We kept getting bounced back and forth between billing and the fertility dept even though fertility takes the payment and was able to provide the ledger after the first ER…

NOW we’re trying to start our FET cycle. It took them weeks to process our deposit, then they dragged their feet ordered the meds and said it would take 1-2 weeks for insurance auth… again, we’re self-pay, which we had to highlight even though it’s been like this through the whole process. Then they kept ordering the meds to different pharmacies because some would be out of certain things, etc.

Look, I get that these clinics get a lot of patients and I don’t expect anyone to hold my hand. But the number of times things have slipped through the cracks, plus the lack of communication AND miscommunication is astounding. Tbh I hope this FET works on the first go just so I don’t have to deal with them anymore! It’s amazing that this world class institution lacks basic business and risk management.
