Standard practice or bad service?
I got tape in hair extensions for the first time, I decided to splurge and go to a salon that specializes in them and carries genuine human hair. The initial install went well, but after a couple weeks the adhesive started melting and spreading throughout my hair. I would have clumps of my own hair stuck together and the outsides of the tapes would be very sticky and hair would be sticky my to it, which made them harder to blend in. I held out for 8 weeks when it was recommended to come for my lift up. I had explained to her the situation and she said she never seen that happen and couldn’t figure out why. I asked her to get all the residue out of my hair as it was grossing me out. After she washed my hair I still had very sticky hair. She put new tapes over top of the old ones, without removing the old adhesive and put them back in my hair. Immediately my hair started doing the same thing and she said it would wash out. After 6 weeks the tapes were separating and I could stick my nails in them, I decided to take them out which they just came out without using any products. I have been soaking the tapes in rubbing alcohol and using castor oil to get all the adhesive off the original bands. That took about 5 washes and some are still a little sticky. The adhesive I removed was absolutely disgusting, it has changed to a yellow colour and I had black fuzz in them. I ordered tapes from Amazon and I plan on installing them myself as the cost is not worth it anymore.
The original install cost me $800. The lift up and a colour touch up cost me $500.
Is this standard practice? Or did I get a bad service?
The hair itself is very good quality and definitely human hair as I have bleached and recoloured them a couple of times now.
