Hello guys. I am not new at cat-keeping. I had my previous cat for 15 years until he passed away. I honestly felt like I stopped liking cats because of him, as he would literally always go to a different room when I came home from work and he smeared his shit on my wall if he didn’t get the fancy food he wanted, at the exact time he wanted. I put up with it because I loved him and he was my son nevertheless..
after his passing I decided to get a kitten, hoping it would change my perspective on cats. After all, each has its own personality.
After getting the 2 months old kitten I fell in love. He was the cuddliest sweet little guy. I was really happy for 5 months, despite constant vet visits , as he had diarrhea no matter what food I tried. He got full check up, all healthy, so I suspected maybe he ate or drank something around the house. He’s a kitten after all and they are curious to try everything. I constantly wiped his bum and paws after each episode and wiped it with wet tissue, teaching him to groom himself as he never did.
Now he is 7 months old and I recently got him snipped.
One day I come home and smell a strong smell of urine.
I disregard it, not believing my cuddly angel would do such a thing.
After all, I live in a tiny 700sq studio and all the soft surfaces at home are practically where he also sleeps.
A week later, I was heading to the couch and I noticed a strange stain. After switching on all my lights at home and investigating - … it was urine. Exactly in the spot on the couch where I sleep , and he always sleeps next to me in that spot, exactly where my shoulders are. After investigating further I saw that the whole couch was covered in piss.
Also all my soft chairs were covered in piss. My floor mats and tshirts were covered in piss.
I scolded him when I caught him in the act the next day, pointing to the spot on the couch - still wet and warm.
I confined him in the bathroom. Only to find that the next day he shat outside of the litter box provided there.
Soon after I got a cat cage, to keep him there when I cannot constantly watch him and am busy doing some work.
Yesterday I saw he bent the cage metal and made a hole to get out.
So I let him out and kept him in my bedroom for 10 minutes while I quickly had dinner (he usually jumps on my food and harasses me when I eat, and I just wanted to have my one meal a day after really stressful stuff at work). 10 minutes later I open my bedroom door, and he walk around the living room shut n then jumps on my lap and walks around the couch. When he sat down on the other side of the couch, I noticed his one front paw was completely smeared in his own shit. Knowing his schedule he never poops at 8pm (always around 4am when I’m asleep as his dinner meal is given at 630).
I had to shower clean the whole house and scrub the sofa. I am still keeping him in my bathroom as I don’t know what to do except to re-train him to use the litter box again. Perhaps a week. Perhaps more. Please advice, I really do not want to give him up but I cannot sleep and sit in piss and shit everyday.
All vet checks done, he is perfectly healthy.
