My 3 year old son was bitten by a family members dog. Should I see a plastic surgeon or derm to help with the scar?
Approx one month ago my son (3 male) was bitten on the cheek by a family members dog.
It was terrifying and I’m very thankful it wasn’t worse than it is.
It was a one tooth puncture right where the dimple of his check would be. He did not receive stiches and it healed without any infection. It is about a quarter of an inch in length.
I have been massaging a product called silagen into everyday. (Was given this by my mom, she had it from a prior surgery.)
The scar itself feels thick but not raised. It causes an indent on his cheek like a dimple.
I just want to make sure I’m doing everything I can for him, I have no idea how the scar might change as he gets older, or if something needs to be done to help with the indent.
I see our insurance covers scar treatment if it’s due to an injury - would it be best to see a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist for this?
