How do I play despite my fear of Minecraft Beta and Alpha versions?

I've played Beta and Alpha a few times in the past, and I have always been scared that there is something there watching me or some malevolent entity seeking to harm me in some way. The terrain generation (especially on Alpha) is inhuman and desolate, which further intensifies this sensation.

I wonder despite this fear and uncanniness, how can I play these versions?
