Clarification on Stratocaster shielding?
I have a prewired Stratocaster pickguard, and I'm looking to swap the components to another pickguard.
On the prewired pickguard, it's a typical 3 ply black plastic pickguard with some foil shielding under the control pots.
On the new pickguard that I want to swap to, it's a split pickguard set with satin black Anodised aluminium and a plain aluminum Control Half Guard.
In the instructions for the pre-wired pickguard, it states: "The metal shielding grounds all electrical components. If a pot comes lose, it might lose connection and not work correctly until properly tightened. Be careful not to let pots 'slip' while tightening, as the lock washer can tear the shielding."
In swapping to the new pickguard, do I need to apply shielding to the new pickguard? I am hoping that, because the control plate is raw aluminum, it doesn't require shielding. Is that assumption correct and should I be safe to just move components over to the metal pickguard and install per usual?
