A totally new game I can talk about in detail and which has a Steam store page is Fractured Alliance, a solo indie dev’s project in a command & conquer style. He is getting close to having a demo ready but with no funding it is hard to get more people working on the project.
In more good news on upcoming RTS games, Industrial Annihilation developers have opened their Kickstarter page and will keep it up until September 5 in an attempt to geather $200,000 for the game’s development and a Steam Early Access launch in 2024.
Another new game I have never talked about before, which does away with base building in favor of uniquely procedurally generated maps for each battle is titled Infiniwar. This developer’s idea is to go for modern combat inspired by World in Conflict and make more of a Real-time Tactics game which will give you a Roguelike infinitely replayable campaign instead of a scripted storytelling one.
Another developer who is going to need a lot of luck because of how ambitious and different his project is, named his RTS in development Unnatural Worlds. It is going to be a grand scale real time strategy game where the biggest and most obvious feature are the maps which can take on any 3D shape, and planetoid spheres seem so outdated when you have a pyramid, horseshoe, or gear shaped world to play on, at and under it.
Battle Aces is a very fast paced and action-oriented RTS who’s developers aim to make a game in which you spend a lot more time thinking about tactics and use of units rather than how to recruit them. For this they plan to use a system of customizable unit decks and several tech levels, which means picking your army composition of 8 units before each match out of about 50. Resource gathering is automated here, and expansions preset, with units spawning instantly.
As for the newest RTS games in development, you might remember I didn’t have a name for you for that amazing C&C like game being made in the Unreal Engine 5 from the last update on RTS news. Well its developers have published a totally brilliant trailer recently and now we know this future indie RTS gem is going to be called Defcon Zero. They still haven’t posted a Steam page, so for now you can only join their official discord.
Next totally fresh game announcement arrived just as I was making this list from a two indie dev team and it is titled Battlefield Commander WWII. They wanted to combine both strategy and tactics while giving you command over historically accurate units of the Soviet Union and Germany during the later stages of the war. But they have plans to add more nations across multiple theaters of war.
Next I want to tell you about a new game by a studio that has already created a few games, but hasn’t delivered one fully yet. This one they named Apoceus and plan to have it feature large medieval battles on big maps, with both machines and monsters besides dwarves. Base building and resource collection included. The vast armies which might go up to 10,000 units will be led by three main characters, each with a unique specialty in the art of war.
Another very interesting new indie RTS project is called MainKind RTS, and you won’t find it on Steam but on Twitter. I will never call it X. Anyway, the reason for not having a Steam page is something both gamers and game developers among you will find important. As from what I have managed to figure out, these developers making MainKind RTS are using models, textures, effects and so on that are basically borrowed or brought from some asset market, as I know of one more game which uses almost the exact same ones. And that game doesn’t have a Steam page either.
Last game, besides the hidden secret game, is called Dawn Of Defense, and it is another different kind of RTS because it mixes Roguelite Tower Defense gameplay with base building and unit combat. These developers have such a nice idea, that even I, a kind of a gamer who almost never plays Tower Defense games, found it interesting. The idea is that you have a map, and two sides on it. The good guys are defending the Spirit Tower while the baddies are spawning from an evil lair and travel down trenches in between sort of islands of land which you can occupy with your soldiers and defensive weapons
Please to let me know which ones did you find more interesting so I know which ones to research more and showcase them again.
