Choosing a career for the medicated self versus the nonmedicated self?

Questions/Advice

In my early thirties and diagnosed this year. After a few months of depression and burnout I feel the urge to get back to work.

This time around, I know I have adhd. This time around, the diagnosis with all of its explanatory revelations into my workplace performance (both emotional/social performance and executive functioning) means that everything is different. This time around, I know a new medicated reality.

I think this makes the choice of what jobs to pursue a bit tricky.

Should I explore jobs that suit my medicated self or my nonmedicated self?

Can any of you relate?

I know the answer should be to just apply for jobs that you want. But what if you don’t know what you want? I assume a new diagnosis is easier to manage whilst you have a job you feel safe with. I assume it’s nice to have a year where you can figure yourself out and also keep working. For me it feels like starting from scratch, choosing a new career is a possibility. Yes I can with medication finally focus, sit still and finish a task. But, what if I should utilize my new understanding of my jittery self to my advantage instead (or at least, try to incorporate it)?

If you have, like me, been diagnosed and have the possibility to make a change. How was your line of thinking?
