The sacred rock and the cursed teens
This is a story that happened around 80 years ago.
There was a Sami family that used to migrate with their reindeer to the coast. On their way, on the tundra was a rock. In the old Sami beliefs, some rocks were said to hold incredible powers. These rocks are called a "Sieidi", and the Sami would offer them presents and prayers, to make sure their following year went smoothly.
So one summer day, they were arriving by the lake were the Sieidi was standing. However, when they were walking along the lake, they noticed that there was a tent by the lake, and people that were fishing. The family walked up to the people. It so happened to be friends of the Sami family. They talked for hours by the lake, and even traded a bit. There were also 4 teens that were fishing. These teens were known to be quite rude and pranksters.
When they finished talking, Mahtte, the head of the Sami family said that it was time to pay respects to the Sieidi. The Norwegian people understood, and continued fishing. The Sami went to the Sieidi, sat there for some time, and left gifts to the Sieidi. They left some money, antlers and bones. When theu were done, they kept on walking towards the coast.
The Norwegian people also decided to pack up their stuff and go home. However the teens asked if they could stay there a bit longer and fish. They were allowed stay. However these teens had a plan. Once the adults had walked out of sight, the teens ran to the Sieidi. They took all the money and antlers, and threw the bones in the lake. The oldest, named Petter, which was also their leader, even decided to pee on the rock. "Stupid shaman stuffs, the Sami are just animals after all" was the words he said when he peed.
After they were done, they also walked home. However, when they arrived home, Petter's throat started to hurt. He didn't think much about, it was probably just a small cold. However, during the night, Petter suddenly screamed. His parents ran to his room. Petter was wide awake. His parents asked him what it was. Petter said that there was a woman standing in his room with old Sami clothes on. But there was no one there. His parents said that it probably was just a nightmare.
The next day, Petter was feeling even worse. He had to throw up almost once an hour, and he had diarhea. But again, it was probably just a small illnes. The same night, Petter was heard screaming in his room. He had seen the same woman in his room. But again, there was no one there.
The next day, news had broken out. Petter's friend, Ole, who was also with him harrasing the Sieidi, was dead. People had seen him walking along a road, when a moose suddenly charged out of the woods, taklinh Ole the ground, stomping his head, breaking his skull, before dissapearing into the woods again. Petter was saddened by the news, however his health was getting worse. Now he wasn't able to pee at all, and his stomach was stinging, almost like he had eaten needles. Sure thing, the next night, the woman was standing in Petter's room. However, instead of standing in the corner, she was now standing in front of the door. However something had changed. When she was in the corner, she had quite a pretty face. Now, her eyes were gone, and just the empty sockets were left.
2 days after the death of Ole, Tom and Per decided to go fishing. Fishing was a way for them to grieve, as they would always fish when they were sad. They took their boat and went to the fjord. However just as they started fishing, the weather suddenly shifted. A strong wind, rain and thunder filled the sky. They tried rowing back to shore, but the waves kept pushing them out of the fjord. They dissapeared towards the open ocean, never to be seen again. Their boat however had washed ashore a couple of kilometers south, without a scratch.
Petter was getting scared. All of his friend that had harrassed the Sieidi had died, and he was probably next. It didn't help that his health was getting worse by the day, and the woman in his room was standing closer each night, with her face getting more disfigured by the night.
Petter was scared, and in his moment of sickness decided to tell what he and his friends had done. Petter's parents were dissapointed, however they decided to call Mahtte over to their house. There, Petter confessed everything that they had done, and begged Mahtte for forgivenes. Mahtte said "It isn't me you should ask forgivenes for, it's Sieidi, as it's the Sieidi you have hurt" Mahtte was known as a healer, and was able to cure sickness, however he said to Petter "Even if i try to save you, there is no guarantee that Sieidi will accept my prayers. Out of all your friends, you were the one who was the most disrespectful. Ole, who was least involved, got the quickest death. You are the one that has to suffer the longest". Petter also told Mahtte about the woman in his room. "The woman is called "Jábmeáhkka", and she is known as the godess of death. She is the one that is going to end your life".
The same night, Petter was sleeping. Suddenly he woke up, and sure enough, Jábmeáhkka was in his room. However, this time, she was standing over him, with a knife in her hand. She moved her knife towards Petter's stomach, then stabbed him. Petter screamed and cried, and when his parents ran in, he was coughing blood.
People gahtered in Petter's room, and a priest was called too. The priest read the bible and prayed, however Petter was still in agony. The last thing he did, was point at the door and say "She is behind you, her face is gone, and only her skull is exposed". Her hand fell, and Petter breathed his last breath, before dying.
They buried him, and it was said that his grave wasn't left alone. Birds shat on it, dogs peed on it, and even the lightning hit it.
Even today, the Sami people respect the Sieidi, because it holds powers that can't be explained, and it's better to leave it alone than risk your life messing with it
