Location of external filter tips.

Hey guys, little question here. Can I have my IN tube halfway instead of completely at the bottom of the tank? Like this beautiful pic: https://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2024/33/1/1723420221-858585.png

The reason is if my filter leaks for some reason I'll have less water on the ground!
