Help finding t astragal for french door conversion

Hello all,

We are converting our office into our babys nursery/room and are looking to convert these french doors into a set of privacy french doors that can latch closed as opposed to the current ball catch. In that link you can see in our previous home we had the set up we are looking for. Also in the pictures is a pre-routed t-astragal I was able to get from Builders First Source, however its about 9/16" thick and my gap is 7/16".

Before finding the one at BFS, this has been an absolute hassle to find. So my questions are:

  • Is this something I can find somewhere? I am in the North Texas area
  • Is it as simple as trimming down the door to fit the part I already have?
  • Is there something I am missing here?

Obviously, I still have to prep for a door latch and bore one of the doors for a real door lever instead of the dummys and all of that is easy enough for me. This is a new build in 2022 so we are trying to accomplish this while keeping the home as nice as possible.
