Sober Dating

Dating Sober

Long story short, my drinking and life choices took me out of college and unmotivated me for a few years but I’m sober and back in college.

I’m 25 now meeting, obviously, younger college aged women. I’m always hesitant to say I had a problem in the past. I heard Theo Von once say “I’m not drinking right now” and I like that because most people don’t question it and shrug it off like “Oh okay he’s taking some time off”.

However, sometimes these dates turn into two or three more and I feel like I have to admit that I had a problem that ruined relationships, friendships, I’m a verbal asshole drunk, whatever. I don’t like saying “Hey I was an alcoholic”. I was never reliant on alcohol I just abused it, few days a week, for years, and it ruined a lot of things so I decided I should probably stop.

I’m not worried about the reaction because if it off puts someone, this was never going to work anyways. I’m more curious as what I tell someone.

“Hey I abused alcohol for years, it’s for the better for us both I’m sober” or what?
