Help, my male guppy has been swimming frantically

Over the past two days, my male first kept on attacking my female guppy. I've put both in separate tanks on their own and my male is now swimming frantically around the tank for the part 7 hours. The water parameters are all normal and the tank is the same one that he has been used to all this time. Is he looking for a mate or is it something more serious?
