What counts as a check in vs beers?

when I go to my profile I see 2xx check-ins and 1XX beers. My app isn’t in English but yeah the amount of check ins and the other is Beers. I’m not sure how it is when set to English. Does a taster count as a check in and a beer or just a check in, but not a beer?
