Hi all,

So I climbed from 2300 to Legend in Fossil Cup in 115 battles and have since managed to hit the leaderboard with the team below. It’s the same team I used to hit Legend in the last Fossil Cup - for context I have only hit it 3 times now, so 2 of the 3 have been this team. I sent some footage to DanOttawa who showcased my battles & ran it to Legend himself, so if you want to see it in action there are 2 videos!

The team is:

Togedemaru 1/10/15 (Thunder Shock Wild Charge Fell Stinger)

Jellicent 2/12/13 (Hex Surf Shadow Ball)

Ferrothorn 3/14/12 (Bullet Seed Thunder Power Whip)

With Togedemaru & Ferrothorn you are ABA weak to fighting & fire, so the general premise of the team is that for any lead that isn’t ground you stay in with Togedemaru and try to gain either a) switch or b) shield advantage for Jellicent & Ferrothorn to sweep.

So bearing that In mind, here’s how I played the common losing/neutral leads I faced:

—-

Fighting/Fire:

SPoliwrath/Lucario: These are the 2 hardest leads I played out. I essentially tried to play the 0s by going for the Wild Charge as soon as I had it. They (almost) always shielded, so I got farmed down but by going early I limited the farm they got.

Poliwrath: This is much more playable than the Shadow version. Two scenarios here: a) they tried to Counter me all the way down or b) they tried to throw a move. In both cases I attempted to KO them or take both shields. With a) I baited FS, then WC straight after; with b) I went for back-to-back WCs.

Escav/SMawile: Togedemaru beats Escav and SMawile in the 1s if you bait FS. So I built up to a WC, threw FS and then got to a WC. Again, here I attempted to KO them or take both shields.

—-

Steels:

ASandslash/Perrserker/Registeel: I did not really want to face these with my backline, and Togedemaru beats these all in the 2s going straight WC so I charged up to 2 WCs, threw 1, charged back up to 2 & threw them both if required.

Ferrothorn: Togedemaru can survive 2 Power Whips with no WC debuffs & 2 WCs will KO after boosting with FS so I

  • boosted my attack with FS immediately (which is after 4 so good timing)

  • let them Power Whip me twice

  • threw back-to-back WCs

Playing this way, I would win in the 0s. The majority of the time they shielded once, which I preferred as I could come into my own Ferrothorn & leave with a reasonably healthy Ferrothorn, energy & shield advantage.

If they didn’t throw Power Whip for a second time before I had 2 WCs I played the 1s instead.

SZone/Mirror: I hate mirrors generally, and these are horrible mind games. I’m not sure I have any good advice here!

—-

Lanturn: If they stayed in with Lanturn, I charged up to 100 energy, hoping they would throw first. If they threw first, I knew I could match shields & outpace. If they didn’t throw first, I attempted to get off 2 WCs and then let Toge go. Dan fought for switch a lot more vs. Lanturn leads, so that may be a better way to play it.

—-

I am aware that the majority of players have not been enjoying Fossil Cup, but this team was loads of fun to run.

Thank you for taking the time to read this & best of luck in your battles!
