Questions!

Hey everyone! First time posting!

To give some context: my wife (29f) and I (30m) have decided to enter an open marriage. My wife was the one who initiated the conversation; she had a rough time birthing our daughter and just got her body back, so to speak. Last summer, we moved to a new city and have just started making friends. While my wife and I have a very active and healthy sex life, she presented very reasonable arguments as to why she wanted to open up things. Among them, she never really got to experience much sexually: she comes from a pretty broken home and fell in with the church crowd and dated the same guy - now a pastor - through high school and some of college. When she graduated, she dated another guy who was also pretty conservative and overall not a nice person. She had a year and a half of relative freedom before we started dating. She got pregnant at 9 months into our relationship. I have been down the block, on the other hand, and spent much of my 20s just experimenting, messing around, etc. I was even in an open relationship myself.

While I’m excited at this prospect - mainly because I want to meet people in this new city and live a little - I do have some concerns. I truly don’t care about the idea of my wife sleeping with someone else albeit with my consent. My main concern is that she will become emotionally attached to another person akin to a relationship.

I know I can’t control the weather, but I did have a couple of questions for folks here:

  1. How long have you been doing the open thing
  2. What rules do you find have helped you the most?
  3. Have you closed it before? How did that go?
  4. For those who aren’t poly: how do you go about keeping honest communication about who your partner is seeing?

Thank you!
