Running in Marathon - wearing earbuds: polite or not

Hi! I would like to ask if wearing earphones or earbuds during a marathon is polite or not. I train with music so naturally i want to race with with my music. But would that make me appear aloof to the spectators who cheer for the runners at the sidelines? I also would like to avoid looking like a snob.
