Unexplained, Untreated Daily Nausea
38 yo female dealing with daily/almost daily nausea.
Diagnoses: Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hypermobile type; all other types rules out via genetic testing), asthma, migraines w/aura, gastroparesis, GERD, IBS (diarrhea, no constipation), idiopathic tachycardia (just under tilt table test threshold for POTS), endometriosis, PCOS w/insulin resistance, generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, previous history of peptic ulcers, very large hiatal hernia (1/3 size of stomach organ), umbilical hernia (5 cm), chronic insomnia
Meds: albuterol (2 puffs daily PRN; I average 2-4 puffs per day max), singular, 10 mg 1xday; metoprolol succinate ER, 50 mg 1xday (for tachycardia); protonix, 40 mg 1xday; sharobel birth control; iron pill (3 months post c-section); prenatals (currently breastfeeding). I do not use any substances and I very rarely drink alcohol (2-3 drinks MAX of I do drink). I took trazadone, Prozac, wellbutrin, and busbar before my pregnancy to manage my insomnia and mental health, but stopped those when I found out I was pregnant and have not resumed taking them.
I am hoping for help figuring out why pregnancy temporarily cured my almost daily nausea. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and a ton of resulting comorbidities and have had almost daily nausea, sometimes with vomiting and sometimes not, for about 4 or 5 years. I was prescribed reglan for my gastroparesis but it did nothing, and I haven't tried any other daily meds for that since. I use an OTC medication called Nauzene to control the nausea, as it is the only thing that consistently works without side effects. Interestingly, I became pregnant last August and had absolutely ZERO nausea throughout my entire pregnancy and it has just returned this week, at 3 months post partum. I am breastfeeding and plan to continue doing so as long as possible, and Nauzene is not advised during breastfeeding, so I am feeling very concerned, as I previously became anorexic due to the nausea. I cannot figure out why pregnancy would have halted the nausea. I was thinking maybe one or a combo of the anti-depressants I was taking causing the nausea, but I have not resumed taking them and the nausea has returned. Does anyone have any ideas? I will gladly answer any questions you have. TIA
