Question about Perch Protection

So let's say I cast [[Perch Protection]] and promise the extra turn to an opponent at 2 life. In response, an opponent casts a spell or activates an ability that kills gifted opponent.

Would the promising a gift trigger fizzle since the person I'm attempting to gift a turn to is dead? AKA would I still get the Teferi's Protection effect or just the first part?
