Am I fired?

I am F(21) and just graduated from cosmetology school in February of this year. For the last 6 months, I’ve been working in a shop doing hair with my student permit whilst actively trying to pass my state test to receive my cosmetology license.

In my state, after six months from graduation, if you’re still using your student permit and don’t have your request sent for a license (which I don’t obvs) your permit expires.

My permit expired in July and once informing my manager, I had to be put on a suspension. The owner of my shop checked the status of my permit on my states website and my permit is still listed as active on there.

The last I spoke to my manager was a few days after my suspension started. She was informing me the owner was reaching out to consumer affairs to see if they could work anything out since my permit is still active on their end.

I told my manager when I would take my test again and just asked for her to keep me updated. I’ve tried retaking my test twice now and got sent home both times due to issues with the front desk.

I have it scheduled a third time now at a different location. I decided it would be good idea if I gave my manager a heads up about me having a few hiccups in the road and that I’m still trying so it’s not totally radio silence on my end.

I haven’t heard from her in a few weeks and she hasn’t responded to my text I sent almost a day ago. I think this was my sign that I was let go but my boyfriend thinks I should wait a little longer in case she’s busy.
