any actual resources for federal or state (FL) housing/financial assistance?
i’m breaking my lease to try and get away from my ex, i have a restraining order but he still drives up and down my street constantly. he’s a violent, disgusting person and he’s broken into my apartment over a dozen times so im always afraid and wondering if/when he’ll get drunk and reckless and try again. i’ve been trying to get out of my lease for 4 months, my landlord finally agreed to change my move out date to Sept. 13th. (i renewed my lease 6ish months ago, so 6 months early.) which would be great, if i didn’t lose my job 2 weeks ago after totaling my car. i live in south Florida where rent for a studio apartment starts at $1300, so as you can imagine, rental/financial assistance is extremely limited. i’ve been to every church, salvation army, domestic abuse center, etc. in my county, and they are all out of funds. the only resource available is through the county itself, and they only accept 20 applications on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8am-10am. in the last 3 weeks, i’ve been able to get through 3 times and fill the application out, but by the time i finish they’ve already stopped accepting them. (i’m not being dramatic, i’ve tried every mon/wed/fri for 3 weeks and if i don’t get onto the site before 8:01, the application portal is closed.) i had a baby 6 months ago and have been doing it on my own, so money was already tight, but now i’m drowning. my 3-day notice was issued on the 5th and i got an email yesterday notifying me that they were going forward with filing the eviction. im genuinely convinced that i’ve tried every resource available in my area, the money just isn’t there. at this point, im hoping, but im not optimistic. i don’t mind going to a shelter if it means he won’t know where i am, and maybe that’d turn out being the best option, but i want to make sure i have no other choices before i choose that. i don’t want to move my daughter into a shelter unless it’s my only choice.
