Housing cancellation fee

So I was on the housing waitlist from last semester, but decided I was going to live at home and commute for the rest of my time at Cal Poly. I received a housing assignment that I didn’t want in early July and forgot to cancel it until yesterday. They are charging me $450 that I don’t have. How do I get Housing to drop the fee?
