Help me sound less pretentious!
Hi! Per rules, North American public K-6th. I coordinate everyday/IEP tutelage and care for elementary students as part of a local grant. I am largely responsible for daily communications between school faculty and their parents as my particular program operates from 6:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Yesterday I received extremely helpful feedback from a lead in order to prep for a possible promotion, but it’s cooking my brain as an adult with some cognitive/social differences.
When I’m trying to avoid being misunderstood, I tend to speak literally and with as much information as possible. This is exacerbated when I’m trying to simplify a complex message, or clarify something general with a parent. My language just isn’t accessible sometimes and I can come across as pretentious or even condescending with the wrong tone.
Any advice for cutting out verbal fluff while still offering thoughtful, helpful information to guardians? I’m not trying to grunt like a Neanderthal over here, but I genuinely want to make sure I’m not creating more stress or confusion due to my crappy social language barrier.
Thank you!
