Recovery will always be my best EMINEM album
Due to the recent Tyler interview and all the rankings people pulled out due to the release of TDOSS, I felt the need to share why Recovery will always be my favourite Em album.
I was going through a lot, particularly in 2011. I was a fresh college grad who was clueless about life. My friends were figuring out shit too, but for the most part, all of us were jobless nursing grads, so we couldn't just hang out easily. What's worse is that I failed a nursing board exam. I had to stick with a mentally draining job so I could afford to review and retake the exam. My parents didn't kick me out, but I was told they would no longer support me financially, so I really had to stick with that job. And a girl I was dating then ghosted me out of nowhere. For the lack of better terms, I was depressed as hell.
I wasn't big on Recovery when it came out, too. But as an Em fan, I listened to it, and just listening to the words of a man who became big with his songs that were drug-induced became therapy for me eventually. It felt like someone was telling me I could get through all of this. Songs like Cold Wind Blows, Talkin' 2 Myself, & Going Through Changes reflected how I felt at that time as a young adult entering the real world. No Love reflected my frustration of getting constantly rejected by the women I pursue, and Love the Way You Lie was a good heartbreak song for the girl who ghosted me. Not Afraid, Won't Back Down, & Cinderella Man were great motivational songs that helped me get through the day. Almost Famous was a song that helped me start a YouTube channel then.
I'm in a better place now than where I was then. I built a career out of that tiring job and met a girl from that industry who became my wife. I passed when I took the exam again; while I didn't pursue a nursing career, at least I can say I'm a licensed nurse. That whole 2011, I survived thanks to the countless times I listened to Recovery. Em saved me from his reflections on how he recovered.
