Decreased cognition
Hi,
Male
Currently: 26, 85 kg, 5’11
I was diagnosed with hypertension in Jan,2021 for which I started CONCOR AM 5(Bisoprolol 5mg + Amlodipine 5mg). It controlled my blood pressure bring it down to 120/80 from 160/90. I was obese then, bad eating habits, anxious all the time. I had migraines almost daily. I have taken numerous migraine meds as well such as topiramate, propanolol, sibelium, amitryptyline, valproic acid etc.
Fast forward to 2024, I have lost around 20 kgs, eating healthy food, working out daily. Migraine frequency has reduced. My bp went down till 100/70 so I decided to decrease bisoprolol to 2.5 mg while skipping amlodipine same. It worked, my bp was stable at 110/70. Again I decided to reduce amlodipine to 2.5 while keeping bisoprolol to 2.5. It worked bp remained stable at 110/70. I went on taper month on month basis, monitoring my bp twice daily using doctor’s apparatus rather than digital.
Over the years, I have tried different supplements for cognition and anxiety- Ashwagandha, Bacopa, L theanine, Magnesium L threonate, Magnesium citrate/glycinate.
Ashwagandha - I took it for 3 years straight, till it stopped working and I was diagnosed with hypertension. Helped with stress.
Bacopa - Helped with cognition immensely, took for 2.5 years straight to control panic attacks I had when I was diagnosed with hypertension. Once I stopped bacopa, I felt dumb, no memory at all. Don’t know if this was due to topiramate or what. But My cognition levels have gone down a lot. It takes time for me to remember yesterday’s tasks.
L theanine, Magnesium L threonate - L theanine helped with sleep but both of the above caused extreme headaches which were unbearable, so stopped. No benefit noted.
Glycinate/citrate - Citrate helped a bit with constipation but both of them were not quite helpful.
I feel I have taken a lot of medicines in the last 7-8 years, and my cognition has decreased a lot. I am slow at things, cannot recall things, am confused most of time. How can I get back to my baseline? What can help me get back again? I am just 26.
