A living tribute - Just don’t do it (alivingtribute.com)

Okay I’m not one to be negative, but I just have to say it…

If you are looking for options for “Sympathy gifts” please don’t go the route of doing a living tribute. Please give some amount of effort for the person grieving.

I just had a very hard loss and my manager apparently thought this was a good idea and “planted a tree” with this website and I got a shitty piece of PAPER in the mail with Arial font that said a tree was planted for them, nothing personal, not even a location, just said it would be in the state. I don’t know why but this offended me so much. Like zero effort was put into this gesture. It would have meant more if my manager would have just texted me I’m sorry for your loss or just checked in with me about it.

It seems so… non personable… maybe it’s just the grief talking but I just would wish it had been more personal to the person who passed or anything really that showed appreciation. I feel more offended now by this gesture bc it’s just so lazy honestly which hurts more. He was a great man and has so many passions and causes he cared about, and sorry but trees weren’t it. Would have been better if my manager took just 5 mins to have a chat with me to find out my loved one’s interests: like how he participated in st Jude initiatives, was a veteran, things like that would have memorialized him better.

I looked up the organization and it’s not even a non profit… so in my head a scam. So now his death is memorialized by a scam.

Just if you read this, just be a decent human and just send a normal sympathy card and a hand written message, don’t be an asshole and do the bare minimum. That hurts more.

Sorry if this seems wrong or opinionated, again it’s probably just the grief talking but I’m just offended at the gesture. 9 dollars to plant an imaginary tree it seems…. I can’t even
