Apple TV only smooth at 720p

lm using an Apple TV4k on the latest software, plugged into a Xgimi Mogo 2 Pro projector. This projector is capable of streaming up to 1080p, and it does so very smoothly in the in-built AndroidTV os it comes preloaded with, which is why i think this is an Apple TV issue.

When scrolling through menus, opening apps, animations, etc, the apple tv displays sluggish and slow animations. this is visible in content too, it’s just slightly choppy, just barely noticeable enough to ruin my time watching anything.

Now, everything is fixed in the menus when i set the Apple TV quality to 720p SDR 60hz. Anything else, and it ruins it again. i don’t know how to fix this.

I’ve tried different HDMI cords, resetting the unit, unplugging, updating, etc. everything. i’m at a loss and i can’t deal with the awful stuttering.
