The Expedition

Workshop

Gentle waves of traffic sigh

a pulse beneath two lovers high

among the clouds, their moans and cries

give way to tangled legs that lie

with breath that is returning.

The melted ice, a chair askew,

kicked off heels and clothes bestrew.

-a common scene, there’s nothing new-

but in between them only few

have known what they were learning.

For in a quiet moment, grace.

His hand pulled gently ‘round her face,

hair between his fingers, laced,

while hers against his back she traced

the roads where they were verging.

And in the jungle of their bed,

upon his chest she laid her head.

“Keep me safe,” she softly pled,

even though she knew instead.

Their paths would heed no warnings.
