Suggestions for light off roading near nyc metro area ?

I have a 24 OB touring and wanted to do some light off roading but besides the city's many potholes I was hoping to do something more scenic. Are there any suggestions and recommendations? Long island and north of the city preferred.

Should I add a skid plate ? Anyone raise their cars ? Can the dealer do that work ? I know I can't do it.
