Time to give up

I have been unemployed and job hunting for 9 months. I have submitted who knows how many applications. I can't get anywhere.

My mother-in-law had a connection for a guy she knew was hiring. We emailed a few times with him asking what my schedule was for an interview. I replied, and then never heard from him again.

I had applied to a job at the local school district. I hadn't heard anything for a month, so I sent an email to the guy who had it posted. He replied with that he was busy and had been on vacation. He was planning on starting interviews that week. He was glad to know I was still interested and would be in touch soon. That was over a month ago. I haven't heard from him since.

I recently had a phone interview with HR for a local company. She told me I needed to call her for the interview, which I found odd as every other interview I've had, I have been called my them. However, I called at the scheduled time and her voicemail picks up. After several minutes, I finally got a hold of her. She mentioned several times how impressive my resume was. I even used to work with her husband and he gave me a glowing review. She walked me through the interview process and then said I needed to reach out to her the following week to see what the status was, which I found odd again. I reach out the following week, and never heard from her again.

I'm so sick of this crap.
