Cane or elbow crutch?

I've been thinking about getting a mobility aid for my chronic pain and I'm stuck between the possibilities of a walking stick or a single elbow crutch. I'm not diagnosed with anything (yet) but I have chronic pain that especially effects my leg muscles and joints that sometimes impairment my ability to stand and walk and I was wondering which option would be better for someone who is using an aid for pain. I've read that an elbow crutch provides more support while canes are less for pain management but balance, is this true?
