Let the River Be

A fortress glued together
Brittle like popsicle sticks
Where haphazard thoughts
Construct the walls\

You plaster its holes
With hollow words and
Echoes of borrowed hope
But the castle cannot hold\

Once a moat, now
A river, out of control
Where slightest disturbance
Causes deluge\

Whether guards stand
Vigilant at the gates
Or you turn a blinded eye
The river still flows\

Just because it’s inconvenient
Does not make it untrue
That troublesome river
Is also part of you\

Instead of simply
Fortifying the fragile
What if you just let it flow,
Castle be damned?\
