Combat responsiveness feels bad, but I don't know why

I'm not sure if this is just my experience, but the combat input controls were extremely unresponsive for me. The quick attacks happened after a short delay from me pushing X, but I would tap Y for a strong attack and four seconds later when I had already beaten the enemy the attack would actually happen.

No, I'm not talking about charging up strong attacks; I was just trying to do combat combos, and it felt extremely sluggish and clunky to the point of wanting to refund the game. My graphics settings were getting me 90+ frames on medium, so I don't think that's the problem.

Any thoughts or has anyone else run into this???? Please help, I want to be able to enjoy the game :')
