HAL Airport Noise Issues

Hi Bangaloreans. I came to Bangalore a year and a half ago and shifted into this place close to the HAL airport. It's a good place in a damn good locality, centrally located so I'm happy with everything except the oh-so-frequent flights and the thundering noise that each of them make. I understand when they built the airport, there might not have been residential areas around so it was okay, but as things stand, this level of noise pollution has to have some effect on the hearing as well as the moods of people living in areas surrounding the airport, right?!

There's a colleague who loves nearby, moved in around the same time as I did, and she is also annoyed by it. What do you guys do to deal with it?

I'm also curious if anyone knows if, at any point, there has been some discussion about moving the airport away from the city, and not allowing residential societies to come up in the neighbouring areas.
