Do narcs spend a lot of money in you as a way of love bombing and use money as a way to control you and weaponize against you later on?

NSFWAm I being abused?

For the first few months he would spend so much money on me. He initially bought me an expensive bag to get my attention because I was barely noticing him and sent it to my house. Then he flew me business class (to Dubai) to spend time with him for 2 weeks so we could get to know each other. Then we would meet in other cities and he’d do the same: business class flight, hotel, dinner, fun. I chose to move to his home country (probably way too soon but I was trying to show my effort in my own way, not through money) and small gifts would happen in addition to other trips. He always told me he hates to fly, so I felt special that he was flying with me places.

While all of this was great, there were many things that bothered me. He bought me a $3,000 necklace the day after I caught him giving his number to another woman during the first few days I spent time with him. It upset me as we were out, he paid her tab as a way to thank her for letting us use their table space at this club. He could have declined her number and say he was with someone but he chose to give it to her so I was pissed. He bought the necklace the next day. In retrospect I think it was a way to shut me up.

His lack of affection started to grow, he refused to spend time alone with me for months (we’d be with his parents or friends, barely any time just us two except maybe in the morning), refused to sleep in bed with me (would buy separate hotel rooms or I’d sleep in a different room), emotionally would not get closer to me. So I’d try to bring it up often and he’d shut me down and start arguments but accuse me of fighting.

This fighting ultimately made him decide to have me leave his county for a month of “space”. This turned into weeks and weeks of him refusing to meet me and tell me to buy my own flight to meet him somewhere but wouldn’t plan anything or give dates or say where. I was shocked by it and he would say “you can’t put effort to fly to meet me?” I felt like he was trying to set me up as a gold digger. He accused his ex of being a gold digger and now I see why. I never asked for any of this expensive stuff and what I was asking for was love and affection and quality time and could never get it. We are broken up because he claims I never appreciated him and everything he did for me. I’m so in shock because I moved to his country which is NOT an easy place to live, gave up a lot for this relationship, and literally asked for basic things and didn’t get them.

It feels like I was love bombed with money, and weaponized with money. Is this typical for narcs????
