Is there any multiplatform sync service which allows to filter things with gitignore or something similar?

Cloud Storage

My synology drive drives me crazy. It syncs folders which should not sync (like some cache folders or pythons venv folders) so it takes AGES and at this moment it never ends. And i can't prevent it because i can filter only files, not folders.

In ideal situation potential sync app would respect .gitignore files and filter things with them. Or at least have similar mechanism where i could filter things for each folder by creating some config file.

So overall i need sync service with:

  • multiplatform client - windows, linux, android
  • linux-based server (preferably dockerized)
  • selective sync - on some devices i want to pick whole folder to sync, on some other i sync only it's subfolders (the reason i dropped syncthing years ago)
  • filtering folders and files with some gitignore-like files (or at least similar)
  • preferably filtering as native feature - not some addon which is maintained by some random guy who just learned programming

Theres many such services (Nextcloud, Seafile, Resilio Sync, Syncthing and more) so its hard to check them all extensively.

Nextloud allows to filter things with client setting in gui and only for whole synced folder.

Seafile, resilio allow to use their own „ignore” files but again - only for the whole folder (root directory). There is no way to add them in subfolders.

Rsyncd seem to have —filter and —exclude-from parameters which can do what i want and even can parse .gitignore fils. But it will be hard to use it on android. And im not sure how they use parse multiple gitignore files in nested folders.

syncthing - i was using it few years ago and it had no selective sync
