AITAH (m20) for not fighting a disabled man (m~60) for my wife (f20)

Advice Needed

My wife posted her side about 3 hours ago, but deleted it after the majority of people disagreed with her, but had the balls to tell me that she posted it to Reddit and “everyone agreed with her except for one person”, forgetting I can just check her account. But since she’s so adamant, I’ll first post what she originally posted so you can see her side, as written by her, from her pov, in the name of fairness. Her post: am i trippin

i know i ain’t trippin, but i am f20 and i work at the fedex warehouse. i just got a new apartment with my husband. we have a neighbor next to us she’s a nice older lady and we were talking and she warned us about a man that lives downstairs that seems to kind of lash out. i never had a problem because i haven’t came into contact with him, but coming home from work two morning ago i pulled up to my driveway. i see this man usually when i get off of work and he’s smoking a cigarette outside. i put two and two together after he comes us to my window and so i just wave at him like obviously go away right?? but no he proceeds to stand there for another minute. i try playing it off by pretending im on my phone but really im freaking out due to past trauma and obviously this strange man because what business do you have coming up to a younger girls window and being weird?? so i rolled done my window bc i didn’t know what else to do and he started questioning me. i told my husband and i told him i wanted to go to rhe police and he says not to. i told him to text the landlord he says no. so i said dude, you are my husband you need to protect me. after work today i got off and my husband says he talked to him. i asked him what happened and what he said to him because you know.. it’s my business too??! he wouldn’t tell me and he finally said that he was nice about it and said that i have anxiety and i don’t like older men talking to me. first off, why would you be nice about it?!?! he’s harassing your wife making her uncomfortable and you’re just gonna release MY mental health issues on top of that, you’re gonna be timid about it. that’s not gonna make this guy stop!!! because he was out there again today lookin at me in the parking lot. i ended up getting mad at my husband because that guy is not going to think you are a pushover, therefore he is 99.9% gonna keep doing this to me. i’m so upset right now. i left for an hour. i don’t feel safe here. any opinions or advice?!? thanks

Now for my side. First off, let’s start with her meeting the dude. He was awkwardly standing near her car when she pulled up, she waved at him (I don’t know why, I can see why this was interpreted as an invitation to talk), he then said “do you hate me? I know some people here spread rumors about me”, she said “no”. I’m not sure about the remaining conversation, but I know it was short and he pissed off shortly after. I was at work at this time, she called me repeatedly and spammed me until I picked up, freaking out and demanding I talk loudly so it sounded like I was home because she felt unsafe after this. She then said she should go to the cops and get pepper spray. I told her not to go file a report, because he hadn’t committed any crimes and even if the cops did take a report, it wouldn’t do much. I agreed she should get pepper spray, though I will point out literally a week before this I mentioned she should get some for her own piece of mind, and she told me pepper spray is stupid. She also demanded I “text the landlord”, but refused to ever elaborate on what she means by that, considering we don’t even know this dudes name. Yesterday, I agreed I’ll just talk to the dude whenever I saw him next, especially after we walked past his apartment window to my car last night, and he shouted out “hi” out of his kitchen window (I guess he saw us walking past). Today comes, and as I’m taking out the trash, I see him doing what he always does: sitting in the parking lot having a smoke. I walk up to him, and it is immediately apparent that he has a learning disability. Down syndrome, fetal alcohol, I don’t know what specifically, but it was only confirmed once he started talking. I told him who I was, who my wife was, and said “she has anxiety and does not appreciate being talked too in public, especially by men, please don’t talk to her”. The dude was immediately apologetic and said “I’m sorry, I should’ve talked to you cause I know you’re her man, I just know people spread rumors about me because the lady that used to live next to me was mean to me, and I didn’t want the new neighbors hating me.” I reiterated that I get that, I’m sure he’s plenty friendly, but to please not talk to my wife. He apologized profusely and told me to tell her he was sorry and it wouldn’t happen again. Problem solved, no unnecessary conflict, no fistfights or screaming, just talking person to person to fix an issue. Until my wife got home about 30 minutes later and when I told her what I said, she proceeded to lose her shit and scream in my face that I’m a pussy, repeatedly, that I should’ve been screaming and fighting him for harassing her and not being a “pussy ass bitch”. She legitimately believes I should’ve bare minimum been threatening and screaming at an old disabled person for talking to her. She threw a blanket in my face, screamed at me that she’ll be making more money than me, more calling me a pussy, then disappeared for an hour on a drive. She has since refused to hang out with me (after forcing me to cancel all my plans for today because she pulled a muscle at work, though that’s a separate thing), and just recently claimed that everyone on here was supporting her and refusing to let me go to the store with her and storming out once again, this time saying “if you won’t admit that what you did was fucked up, I don’t want to talk to you.”. Please tell me if I’m being unreasonable here, I feel like I’m being gaslit. Should I have fought an old disabled dude over this?
