Need help learning more about torrenting

I've been pirating for a while but only in small amounts and I feel like I'm still a noob. My process is essentially turn on windscribe, go to 1337x, find what I'm looking for from a user I like / trust, torrent with BitTorrent.

Now I'm trying to set up my own Plex server and actually take it a bit more seriously, let things run all the time so I can get better ratios and be a better community member, but building a small server dedicated for media hosting and torrenting feels like a huge jump in terms of complexity and knowledge I have to acquire to do it properly. Does anyone have any guides or things like that that they could direct me to to help?
