HP Simple pen stops working

I have an HP 2 in one laptop with the Ryzen 5700 and they sent me an HP Simple pen with it. It takes a AAAA battery and doesnt require any bluetooth. It just automatically connects. However, when taking notes (on OneNote for windows 10) it randomly cuts out for minutes at a time which is severely inconvenient in my studies. The Battery should be ok, as I've been dealing with this for a while. The pen driver from HP isn't compatible with my Windows 10 Home version. Windows is fully up to date so I am not sure the issue. Can anyone offer insight?
